The Otto Bock Shape System (OBSS) forms the foundation for our custom cushions. The system is portable, enabling RTS' to travel easily to fit their clients, yet accurate, ensuring that the RTS can capture all relevant information about their client and know that information will be exquisitely replicated in the finished cushion.
By evaluating a patient's needs in the home or facility, the clinician can incorporate all necessary support devices and optimize the seating configuration. The special features of the fitting chair include an easy-to-remove seating frame with tilt-in-space capability, adjustable foot supports and armrests, and preformed vacuum bead-bags that can be fitted precisely to the client's body.
The vacuum fitting bags, made of a stretchable, soft material, are pre-filled with Styrofoam beads, and are easy to use. A low-cost manual vacuum pump connects to convenient bladder valves and controls the rigidity of the bags by removing or adding air. This allows the seating specialist to create an accurate representation of the client without the mess or time required by other methods and without an external power source.
After the patient's body contours have been captured in the fitting chair, a computer and digitizing stylus pen are used to electronically capture the bead-bag's surface and create visual feedback with a computerized contour map. The OBSS allows the clinician to try several different seating systems with the client before selecting the most appropriate option.
Once the RTS is satisfied with the fitting information a digitized image of the cushion can be made, processed, and emailed to Otto Bock production facilities, saving time and trouble. An image of the seating system can also easily be printed out and submitted with other documentation for reimbursement and funding decisions. Best of all there's no plaster cast to get lost or broken.

Once the client's digital information has been communicated to Otto Bock's Central Fabrication facility, our fabrication team works to ensure the cushion is made to your exact specifications. From complicated reinforcements, to unique t-nut configurations, we diligently work to bring you a cushion that will meet your client's unique seating & positioning needs. The Otto Bock Custom cushion is available in two varieties of waterproof, puncture resistant coatings to provide you with greater fitting options. A fabric cover is also available, which provides ventilation and greater comfort. The coatings can be reapplied in the field, allowing for modifications whenever-and wherever-they're needed, while mounting hardware lets you fit the Custom cushions to a variety of wheelbases. The Otto Bock Custom Cushion will be delivered to you in 14 working days.
