Otto Bock ComforT Orthoses are designed to actively balance temperature extremes to increase your patients' comfort and ultimately, their compliance. Made with a special Phase Change Material developed for NASA astronauts, ComforT products absorb surplus energy when the temperature rises, and release it again when temperature falls.

Phase Change Materials (PCMs), enclosed in tiny microcapsules, are preset to a comfortable temperature and compliment the passive insulation of traditional clothing by actively absorbing and releasing heat.

If the temperature of the body or the surroundings increases (red arrow) the PCMs absorb the excess heat and create a cooling sensation. If the temperature falls again (blue arrow) they help warm the patient by releasing the previously stored heat.

How does it work so well?

ComforTemp® products contain millions of microspheres which are preset to a temperature appropriate for the product.
When the body temperature exceeds the preset temperature, the microspheres absorb the excess heat creating a cooling sensation. (Fig.1)
When the body temperature drops below the preset temperature, the microspheres release stored heat to keep the body warm at cooler temperatures. (Fig.2)
Your body heat and the ambient temperature continually recharge and recycle the microspheres to help keep you balanced and comfortable.
