Sheri

"I dealt with horrible pain with my prosthesis. I was uncomfortable. It was a fake happiness. Now, I like life a lot better. My body is healthier."

Not much slows Sheri down. From riding motor cross with her two girls, to leading a local Girl Scout troop, Sheri needs a prosthesis that can keep up with her.

Sheri lost her lower-limb when her daughter Natalie was just one year old. She used a wheelchair and crutches while she was carrying her second daughter, Natalie. Both of her daughters have been raised by an active, positive mother, with unlimited determination.

Sheri attributes her active lifestyle to wearing Otto Bock Health Care’s revolutionary Harmony® Socket Enhancement System. Sheri said that before she started wearing the Harmony, that she stayed positive for the girls, but it was often fake.

A prosthetic breakthrough, the Harmony applies VASS‚™ (Vacuum Assisted Socket System) technology to address the common and painful problem for lower limb amputees of volume fluctuation in their residual limb. Traditional socket systems do not allow for or respond to volume fluctuation, resulting in an inconsistent fit for the artificial leg. Blisters, rashes, chafing, and even ulcers can result in the residual limb.

The Harmony increases the feeling of proprioception for the amputee, or the feeling of having control over your leg and that it is attached. After Sheri’s right leg was amputated, she learned to drive with her left leg. Now with the Harmony system, she drives with her right leg again!

Sheri’s activities are endless. She enjoys biking, snowmobiling, swimming, and fishing. But, one of her greatest joys is helping other amputees. She visits them in hospitals, their homes, and she answers their emails. She wants them to know that they can be happier; they just need the right equipment.
