Karen
"All I ask is 'give me a chance.' Proving there’s nothing I can’t do is the easy part."
Though she’s lived nearly all her life without her right leg, 33-year old Karen of York, South Carolina dares anyone to refer to her as handicapped. Since recovering from the farm machinery accident at age two that tore off her leg and nearly killed her, it’s been full speed ahead into life.
Already a firefighter, police dispatcher and criminal detention officer, Karen’s set her sights on her next goal of becoming a law enforcement officer. Since being fit in March with Otto Bock HealthCare’s C-Leg,® the world’s first completely computer-controlled artificial leg, she’s confident she has just what she needs to realize her dream.
Karen says she’s convinced the C-Leg is finally the prosthetic leg that can keep up with her. Coming from a woman who spends her days utilizing ladders, fighting fires and responding to all manner of emergency situations, that’s no small compliment.
