Otto Bock HealthCare Announces New SilverShield Plastic
Plastics are a key component of any prosthetic solution, and with the introduction of the new SilverShield Plastic, Otto Bock Healthcare takes another step forward for patient comfort and care.
SilverShield Plastic is antibacterial thermoplastics manufactured with Silver (Argentum) – and as such they are the first product of their kind available for orthopedic application. The material used and the manner in which they are made are both designed to deliver some very specific patient benefits. “This new innovation is another advancement we have taken to ensure the best for our clients.” Natalie Jones Market Manager – Technical Orthopedics.
SilverShield works by slowing releasing silver ions, which studies show effectively limits the growth of a wide spectrum of bacteria without compromising skin tolerance. The result is maximum protection from odour. What’s more, SilverShield is thermoplastically formable at 150 degrees Celsius for consistent fabrication. It is also non-irritating, and is suitable for the fabrication of flexible inner sockets.
